Workflow Config: AI Development Tool Configuration and Cross-Device Development Environment Synchronization Solution

Workflow Config is a Dotfiles repository focused on AI development tool configurations, designed to address the challenges of development tool configuration management and cross-device synchronization in the era of AI-assisted programming. Its core objectives include: managing Claude Code skills, agents, and custom rules; achieving seamless synchronization of cross-device development environments; and helping developers build a portable and reusable development environment configuration system.

With the popularity of AI programming assistants like Claude Code and GitHub Copilot, the complexity of developers' toolchains has increased. Traditional Dotfiles only manage basic configurations such as shells and editors, but currently, additional handling is required for: custom rules and skills of AI assistants; agent configuration and behavior definition; project-specific AI workflows; and cross-device configuration synchronization. The Workflow Config project is designed to address these new issues.

As a modern Dotfiles repository, Workflow Config optimizes configurations for AI tools. Its Claude Code management section includes:

1. Skill Management: Uses an independent directory structure (.claude/skills/), categorized by project, general, and team; each skill includes metadata and scripts;
2. Agent Configuration: Defines roles, tool scopes, input/output specifications, and lifecycle management;
3. Custom Rules: Covers code style, project structure, workflows, and security rules, supporting multi-level priorities (global, project, user, team).

The project uses Git for cross-device synchronization:

• Repository Structure: The main branch stores basic configurations, device branches store device-specific configurations, and feature branches test new configurations;
• Synchronization Workflow: Completed via config pull/apply/commit/push commands. Device-specific configurations support conditional loading (based on hostname, OS, hardware) and an inheritance model. Sensitive information management uses .env file separation (not included in version control) and integrates key tools like 1Password and Keychain.

The project provides rich automation scripts:

• Environment Initialization Script: One-click installation of dependencies, repository cloning, and symbolic link creation;
• Update Script: Automatic change detection, intelligent merging, backup, and rollback;
• Health Check: Verifies link validity, file existence, etc. In addition, it integrates VS Code/Vim editor configurations, Zsh shell optimizations, Git hooks, and Docker/K8s container configurations, covering the entire development process.

Best practices include: putting all configurations under Git version control, modular design, sufficient documentation, the principle of least privilege, and security audits. The project can be extended to team sharing (base repository + personal overlay) and CI/CD integration.
