atlas.llm: A Local AI Programming Assistant Implemented as a Single Go Binary

atlas.llm is a lightweight local AI programming assistant provided as a single Go binary. It runs entirely on local devices without relying on external APIs. Its core features include an interactive chat TUI, codebase summary generation, semantic search, and codebase export. Focusing on privacy protection and out-of-the-box usability, it offers developers a private, efficient, and low-cost AI-assisted programming solution.

Today, as AI-assisted programming tools become widespread, most solutions rely on cloud APIs, which raise concerns about data privacy, network latency, and costs. atlas.llm chooses the path of fully local operation, existing as a single Go binary without complex installation or configuration. Its core philosophy is 'simplicity is power', integrating interactive chat, codebase analysis, and context export functions to provide a private and efficient local AI assistance solution.

atlas.llm is developed based on the Go language, with key technology stacks including:

1. Terminal UI: Uses the Bubble Tea framework to build an interactive TUI, adapting to terminal environments;
2. Local Inference Engine: Adopts the precompiled llama-cli from llama.cpp, with models and engines downloaded on demand to control the initial package size;
3. Data Storage: All components and configurations are stored in the ~/.atlas/atlas.llm.data/ directory, including config.json, engine, and models subdirectories, simplifying maintenance and upgrades.

atlas.llm provides three core functions:

• Interactive Chat: Starts the TUI by default, supports commands like /help, /model, /download, and chat history is only retained during the session to protect privacy;
• Codebase Summary: The /summarize command traverses directories to generate file summaries and writes them to SUMMARY.md, following .gitignore rules;
• Semantic Search: /grep <query> uses natural language to find code and returns matching fragments;
• Code Export: The --dump mode generates syntax-highlighted Markdown documents, supporting options like output path, excluded files, and adding summaries.
