Local Large Language Model-Based Symptom Analysis System: An Intelligent Medical Assistant Powered by Ollama and Mistral

This article introduces a symptom analysis system combining the Ollama local LLM framework and Mistral model. The system can run fully offline and provides medical advice, medication guidance, and disease prediction functions through dual-model collaboration (traditional machine learning + LLM). Its core advantages lie in privacy protection (all inferences are completed locally) and open-source features, offering a solution that balances practicality and data security for medical AI applications.

As LLM applications in the medical field increase, data privacy and operational costs have become key challenges. Medical institutions and researchers want to use AI for auxiliary diagnosis but are concerned about the privacy risks of uploading sensitive data to the cloud. This project (symptom-analyzer-ml-ai) is designed to address this pain point, using fully local deployment to allow users to obtain intelligent medical advice even without an internet connection.

Core Architecture Components

The system consists of the Ollama local LLM inference layer and a traditional machine learning disease prediction model. Ollama is a lightweight local LLM management framework that supports deployment on consumer-grade hardware; the Mistral model is selected as the language engine, whose efficient attention mechanism reduces resource requirements while ensuring inference quality.

Dual-Model Collaboration Mechanism

After the user inputs symptoms, the machine learning model first performs disease probability prediction (preliminary judgment via statistical learning), then the LLM generates detailed medical advice, medication guidance, and precautions. This layered architecture combines the reliability of traditional ML with the natural language generation advantages of LLM.

Privacy Protection Design

All inference processes are completed on the user's device, with no symptom descriptions or health information transmitted to external servers. It is suitable for enterprises concerned about data sovereignty, privacy-sensitive individuals, and areas with limited network access.
