Stevo's GenAI Blocklist: An AI Content Filtering Tool for Users to Take Control of Their Browsing Experience

Stevo's GenAI Blocklist is an open-source browser filter list maintained by Stevoisiak, designed to help users block generative AI features on major websites. This tool supports extensions like uBlock Origin and AdGuard, covering AI component hiding solutions for platforms such as Google, YouTube, GitHub, Reddit, etc. Its core philosophy is to respect user choice and let users regain control over their browsing experience. The project is hosted on GitHub and was released on May 30, 2026.

Over the past two years, generative AI technology has rapidly permeated every corner of the internet, such as AI summaries in search engines and AI abstracts on video platforms. These changes often occur without user consent, and most platforms do not provide a simple way to turn them off. Against this backdrop, the Stevo's GenAI Blocklist project emerged to provide users with the option to actively block AI features.

The filter list covers multiple types of platforms:

• E-commerce & Social: Amazon (Rufus AI assistant), Reddit (AI answers/recommendations), DeviantArt (DreamUp ads), Facebook (AI chat), X/Twitter (Grok button)
• Content Platforms: TikTok (AI-generated videos), Booru-style image boards (AI-generated images)

1. CSS Selector Hiding: Match and hide HTML elements on the page (e.g., YouTube AI abstract button)
2. Script Blocking: Prevent loading of JavaScript scripts for AI features
3. Network Request Blocking: Intercept requests to AI service APIs to stop content loading

Supported Extensions: uBlock Origin (recommended), AdGuard, Brave Browser Installation Steps:

• Automatic: Click the subscription link and confirm subscription
• Manual: uBlock Origin Settings → Filter lists → Import and paste the URL Mobile: Android (Firefox + uBlock), iOS (AdGuard/Brave)

• Pi-hole Incompatibility: Requires element-level control; Pi-hole only does DNS blocking
• Difference from AI Content Farm Blocking: Does not remove AI websites from search results (needs another project)
• Trusted Rules: Need to be enabled manually (e.g., replace text, remove flash effects)
• Compatibility Issues: Abnormal filtering effect on Opera, uBlock Origin cannot be installed on new Chrome versions, no uBlock support on iOS
